Cato Litangen: Director of Mimeta, the Norwegian Center For Culture Sector Development and Arts Cooperation, visits Ettijahat

Feb 2017

Cato Litangen, executive director of Mimeta, visited Ettijahat’s new headquarters in Beirut on January 28th-February 1st, 2017.

During the visit, Litangen met the members of the General Assembly and discussed the institution’s objectives and activities for 2017. Ideas for more collaborations and a new strategy for the next three years were also brought forward, especially in the cultural research feed, through the Research: to strengthen the culture of knowledge programme.

To that end, a meeting was arranged with members of the programme’s jury and beneficiaries. The meeting saw discussion of challenges cultural research faces and ways to address them, as well as the best ways to develop Syrian researchers’ skills and work on a new narrative to counter stereotypes and emphasise the importance of the arts.

Mimeta - centre for culture and development – focuses on supporting the service providers to the arts- and creative sectors in Africa, Asia and Latin America. We are aiming at strengthening structures through organization, information and advocacy, through platforms and mobility and through the development of creative economies.

Mimeta strongly believes in securing and fostering the moral and material interests of country’s cultural production and expressions. These interests constitute a significant part of every nation's assets and may represent a major contribution to development, to human rights and democracy, and to the eradication of poverty.
