Concluding of the First Phase of the Creative Support Component within the Home Edition of Create Syria

Dec 2020

In partnership with the British Council and as part of Create Syria’s third edition, the “Home Edition,” we have concluded the first phase of the creative support component with the participation of the 10 supported artists and creative thinkers.

The first phase was conducted throughout three meet ups on Zoom, and was followed by a workshop that took place between the 2nd and the 6th of November 2020.

The workshop aimed to foster communication between the participants concerning creative practices and the communities which are involved in them. The workshop also aimed to present the creative ideas which was supported in the Home Edition and will be developed throughout its discourse. The ideas of participants were aesthetically analyzed, and their objectives were discussed in depth according to the societies they will target.

The workshop was moderated by Rana Yazaji and Hannan Hajj Ali, with participation from the Change Collective team and artists including David Habchi: founding director of Waraq Company and Studio Kawakeb, Oussama Halal: theatre director, Amal Omran: actress, Seba Kourani: actress, Sameh Helwany: artistic director, Soundos Shabayek and founder of the Bussy Project, Shadi Ali: actor, and Kinan Azmeh: clarinet musician.

The workshop was followed by a series of individual meetings which lasted for three days, during which the two moderators discussed with each participant the ways to develop their projects and the main stages which will take place until March 2021. The results of these meetings were shared within a workshop that was conducted on 10th of December 2020 and included presentations and discussions of the developed ideas.

The creative support component is based on the concept of ‘Trajectory” which was developed to give space for more exploration and testing of the project’s ideas throughout the third edition.

The home edition of Create Syria was launched in mid-2020 in partnership with the British Council and was designed to respond to the challenges that accompany the global lockdown and the quarantine that we had to endure. The programme supported ten ideas for projects, which can be found in this link.
