In partnership with the Center for Policy Research and with the support of the DROSOS Foundation, Ettijahat – Independent Culture is thrilled to share its latest publication entitled On Protecting Imagination and Creation: Needs Assessment of the Performing Arts Sector in Lebanon in Light of Accumulated Crises. The publication was developed by researched Rabih Nasser within the Maharat: Building Careers in Performing Arts Programme.
The report is based on an assessment of the challenges facing the Performing Arts sector considering political, social, economic, and health-related challenges in the Arab Region on a general scale, and more specifically in Lebanon. It also assesses the capacities of the sector’s technical personnel, their main characteristics, and their creative and practical skillset, with the aim of developing diverse frameworks of response to support the sector and increase its employment opportunities.
Within this context, the report looks at sector governance, the effectiveness of its cultural policies, the role of its agents and decision-makers, as well as the state of its infrastructure, resources, funding, and human capital. The report also explores the extent to which the sector is utilizing available resources and implementing inclusive mechanisms in its working models, in order to better understand how divisions of resources are made, the impact of official and informal public policies, the role of legislative and legal bodies, the surrounding political, economic, and cultural context, practical potential for change, and the role of foreign entities in supporting the sector.
