Noma Omran Sings | Syrian Notes From Prehistory to Post-Revolution

Ettijahat – Independent Culture is pleased to invite you to a digital concert by opera singer Noma Omran, featuring repertoire she has performed on the stages of the world’s most prestigious opera houses since 2005.

In this concert, recorded in October 2025, Noma Omran returns to Syria after fourteen years of exile and sings Syria from her home.

The concert is a sonic journey spanning Ugaritic, Aramaic, and Syriac musical heritage through to Sufi, classical Arabic, and contemporary music, weaving together the layers of Syrian memory through song. At its heart, it is a unifying space inhabited by voice and maqam, calling for peace, freedom, and beauty – a composition that holds pain and hope together, from The Ugaritic Note (1400 BCE), the first musical note in history – a prayer for fertility, passage, and salvation – to the forcibly disappeared.

The concert features the Gardenia Choir and a group of Syrian musicians, under the artistic coordination of Safana Baqleh. It marks the first event in the artistic programme celebrating the fifteenth anniversary of Ettijahat – Independent Culture.
